Planning stage of a "Stroker" build, yes I can spell despite my user name
92 XJ
242-4.0 block
258 Crank and rods
bored 30 over, few pistons to choose from
HO 7120 head
adjustable roller rockers
Will need some help with springs and push rods when the time comes.
Up date to 2000 intake manifold and 24lb injectors.
Plan to keep the AW4 transmission and stock gears front and rear.
700r4 swap next year, and will up date the front and rear ends to 4.11 or 4.88's.
BIG QUESTION, What Cam????? remember keeping EFI, stock transmission and stock gears:frustrated: Lots of info out there on this
BIGGER QUESTION number two, What problems am I facing with sensors, and-or ECU, I.E. Map Sensor, rumor is wrong cam, and your map sensor won't know what to do. I'm looking for any problems that people may have had digitally/electronically. I'm new at this, I can manage the mechanical stuff, understanding what may or may not effect all these sensors is a complete mystery to me.
Thanks

FAQ Cams:
http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/viewt ... f=34&t=145
Actually I would read through all the FAQ's.
Then I would go through the projects. You can avoid most of the common mistakes this way.

Some people make the mistake of equating the lack of aftermarket parts with inferiority.
There aren't nearly as many vendors making Cummins crankshafts as there are Small Block Chevys.

Yeah, Don't change the AW4 for another auto. Now if you are changing it to a manual because you want a manual that is a different story. Modified valve bodies for the AW4 are available through
[email protected] at a reasonable price.

How do you figure?
The AW4 has only a handful of aftermarket parts, the 700r4 has billet everything available.
I found less than 5 vendors making High performance cranks for Cummins (probably only one producer that is resold under these brands), Chevy cranks are everywhere.
Does this mean OEM Cummins cranks are inferior to OEM Chevy?
Does this mean the AW4 is inferior to a 700r4?
No on both accounts.

So I'll reconsider the 700r4

Now will someone help with the questions?

You can use a COMP 231 cam and have FlynRyan tune your ECU with the 24lb injectors.

The stock PCM is forgiving to a point. I wouldn't run any huge duration cams unless you doing a tune. Comp cams 232 and 231 are fine even without a tune. There are also many other cams available that will be fine. The question is what are you looking for in a cam?
