newb eagle SX4 owner needing help building stroker

Post by casper »

hello folks! i got told by several people to come chek you guys out. i have an '82 eagle sx4 that is my winter car. i have done a bunch of playing with it. '93 4.0 ho head, header, swapped out the 2.35 axles for 3.07 axles. grenaded the np129 t-case. so time for a 229. plan to put in a 5 speed inplace of the t4 later on. right now, its time for a new motor. cyl 5 in my worn out 4.2 is huffin oil. i have a junkyard '93 4.0 block here. the cylinders had water in them so its locked. going to get this motor to the shop to get it tore apart. machine shop next door to the auto repair shop i work at, so thats easy. i have a '79 4.2L crank/rods. im hoping to get figured out what exactly to do to build this stroker. i will be trying to find info on this forum. im going to stay carbed. no injection. (well for the forseeable future.) i hear there is issues with quench, compression, deck height, and other goofy issues. want to stick with the v-belt drive system also.

ok, enough of my ramblings. (ya, i have several ramblers also.) im hoping to learn alot from some of you folks. for anyone interested, heres a link to some pics of my sx4 "HONEY BADGER"

Honey badger. Nice. Lol.

As far as squish/quench is concerned, its not really an 'issue'. You just have to cut the deck (taking into account head gasket compressed thickness) or select the correct piston pin height to achieve the desired quench.

Take a look in the FAQ section for a lot of good info.

Topic moved to basics as requested.

Sorry im the one who moved it to swapology since this doesnt appear to be a normal stroker build. From what i understand, the swapology section is for anything related to putting a 4.x stroker into anything non-4.0. So for example putting a stroker engine into a wrangler that had a 4.2; or putting a stroker in a AMC Pacer. I guess i could be blurring the definition.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!
You're lucky that hundred shot of CAPS LOCK didn't blow the welds on the forum!!
