Hi guys,
i need advice planning to do the whole bottom end rebuild any suggestion what products i should be looking at before getting in deep.
2001 Jeep wj 4.0
1. camshaft
2. pistons
3. bearings
4. timing kit
5. piston rings
6. cam followers/ lifters
was looking into a rebuild kit from melling but not really sure about their products ... quality....i am not looking towards a stroker just a regular engine rebuild with better quality then what jeeps come with.
Thanks any advice will be big help.

1. camshaft Keep the original stock item if it's in good condition.
2. pistons Speed-Pro ZH802CP from Summit Racing
3. bearings Check Summit Racing for Federal-Mogul or Clevite main/rod bearings, and Durabond cam bearings.
4. timing kit Keep your original set if there's less than 1/2" of deflection in the chain
5. piston rings Matching metric rings for ZH802CP pistons from Summit Racing
6. cam followers/ lifters Summit Racing
You forgot the oil pump and you can also get a stock replacement from Summit Racing.

For lifters I would go with the Johnson Hylifts P/n 2011.

the only reason i am doing this is because i saw some friction marks on my camshaft still haven't pulled it out but have a fear that might have damaged it. the main reason behind rebuild is knocking noise coming out of the engine. have already replaced all the components of valve train and now heading for the camshaft .... was thinking of ordering the whole bottom end rebuild kit but decided to go with just the cam shaft , the cam bearings, and timing kit. all stock since i am not planning to upgrade any other products in the vehicle since if it doesn't work after this i am just going to part it out and sell for whatever i can get for it.

Could be a broken piston skirt or a bad rod bearing. Does it knock under all conditions? How's oil pressure? Did you drop the oil pan and inspect lower end yet?
