I have a 1988 Sahara with a 4.2. I want to build a Poor Mans Stroker. I will have to buy a 4.0. Is there any place I can go to get the best of all years e.g. block heads ect. I just installed a weber 38mm carb before I blew the rear main seal. after I replaces the seal I am now loosing oil from the valve cover so I thought with 180k miles I would like to build a stroker. It is my daily driver but I am a home dispatched telephone man so I drive little during the week. I live in Tampa Fl. I really like United Speed World here so I will have them do my machining. I am ready to start buying so it is time to put together my recipe. Please reference any threads or info to help me. Many Thanks in Advance.

Start with the top two FAQ's.
Look at other peoples builds in the projects section.
Decide what the $$$/ Payback ratio will be.

The best heads are from '91-'99 and the best blocks are from '96+ so if you find a complete '96-'99 4.0 long block, you'll have the best of both. That said, '87-'95 blocks will do fine and '02+ heads will also do fine. Just avoid '00-'01 heads because they're crack prone.
