What springs and retainers are you using? If you are using stock valves, you are limited to the springs you can run. It is not so much the springs that are the problem, but tring to find a set of retainers that will fit the valves and locks. The lock grooves are round and they sit high on the valves. The stock locks are small and are 8 degree. The stock valve stems are 8mm.

If you want unlimited (or almost unlimited) valve spring selection, install a set of sbc .194/1.50 valves.

huh guess the first head pics had shadows that made the valves look deeper. the second and third valve pics look look like they're almost flat
