Head Gasket bore size

In my searching for a .043 head gasket, i'm realizing that almost every gasket i come across specifies its made for a 3.875 bore. Is this going to be a problem to use it with a 3.935 size bore? or are there special gaskets for the overbore?

BTW, i'm having a really hard time finding a gasket that is listed as ~.043 Anybody have any secrets/part #'s to share?

I dont see a prob if the piston doesnt hit, has the block been decked, what is the quench going to be?

Block hasn't been decked yet, but i'm going to shave .030 to bring it to .000-.005 deck height. I'm shooting for a quench of .045-.055

Also make sure the sealing ring will cover enough to seal the cyl.

One thing to consider when building a close to zero deck engine is the amount clearance in the main journals and in the rod journals. When the engine is on the stand gravity will be keeping the rod on the upper side of the crankshaft vs. when the engine is running and trying to throw the piston out the top of the bore the rod bearing will be up against the underside of the crank (.0015 to .0025). You should be able to find a head gasket with the proper overbore size, you might have to ask the company directly and tell your parts guys to order that one specifically. If the head gasket is smaller than the bore or the combustion chamber then it will not compress the steel ring to seal the combustion leading to a blown head gasket. Also having the head gasket hang into the bore like that can cause detonation, the exposed ring will become very hot very fast and could lead to premature ignition. IIRC the widest part of the combustion chamber is approx 4 inches which would leave .065 exposed at each end of the chamber.

With all that being said i'm remembering something about all the head gaskets having a bore of 4.000, so maybe that was all just a waste of typing.

From all that i have read, all 4.0L head gaskets have a 4" bore.
A 258 head gasket would fit on the 4.0L but the water passages are wrong for the 4.0L and the gasket bore would be to small as well.

some one will post up the Internet sight, that carry the .043 gaskets........They are made by Victor.

The 0.043" head gasket made by Victor-Reinz (part no. 5713) is also sold by Mopar Performance under part no. P4529242 and has a bore of 4.00", making the head gasket volume 8.9cc. That's the one I have in my stroker.

I was under the impression from other posts, that the Mopar version was discontinued....

The Mopar version is made by Victor Reinz and they're identical. It's even got the Victor-Reinz name stamped on it.

They have everything that Jeep Connection has for cheaper. I got my pushrods and pilot bearing for $33.03 total from them. You get a neat Challenger calender when you order from them too lol
