fuel managment

Post by RAPTORFAN85 »

I know about adj. MAP and crank sensors, but is anybody else running anything different?
I have an OBD2 system (2001) so it would have to be compatable with that.
I have heard about APEXI but havn't heard of anyone runnung it on an OBD2 system.
What are some others to look into? A good controller or even a complete fuel managment system is somthing I don't mind spending some coin on.
I know that there has to be somthing that will work on my jeep!

thanks

I have the Apexi and it is like an adjustable map sensor, but you can adjust different RPM points and at that throttle % it kicks the adjustment in at (both low and hi). There is also the PSC1 which can you can read about on "Help me stroke my 4.0!" thread. I have the Apexi SAFCII on my on my 2000 XJ.

Your mega squirt is just controlling the fuel injection, not spark?

My setup controls the spark also. Pluse from my distributor goes to MS-II (MegaSquirt 2) and then the MS-II controls an MSD box.
I have full control over the timing curve based on RPM vs Manifold pressure

The engine is a 2000. It is in a 1979 AMC Spirit drag car that I am building. (look in the AMC section here)
As far as tuning, I have a wide band lambda that will let it "kinda " tune itself. I have used quite a few systems in the past and must say the software is pretty good.
I should be getting it on the dyno next month and will tell you more after that.
For what it's worth, I did assemble mine from the kit and the engine started on the base map and revs quite well.
There is a guy in FL that has a MS-II on a 4.0 and says it drives as well as the stock system.
I would always go with a stand alone fuel system on a modified engine, just because you are not limited on what you can do.
It is a big learning curve if you have never done anything like this before. Not impossible...just big.
The Megasquirt forum is a great thing.

I had thought about going with MS, but I decided against it for several reasons. 1) have a 2000 XJ, which uses a twisted pair wire for the gauges. I.e. the gauges are run over two wires.. maybe more, but there isn't a separate wire for each gauge. That also means the stock computer feeds the gauges their data. I know I could go with complete after market gauges, but thats kind of pricey. 2) I don't know where I will be living in teh future and some places hook up to the OBD II port to run checks. MS= No OBD. 3) Its my dd. While MS can be used on a DD I haven't used one before and I wouldn't want to start on my dd. Now.. when I get my Jag V12 running I'll probably convert to EFI and run MS.
