the beginnings of a local race track!

Sence this has nothing to do with jeeps i figured i would share it here.
7 years ago i joined a non profit organization called U.C.M.A(Uinta County MotorSports Association) and have help then put on snow drags, motor cycles, arena cross.
3 years ago we aquired a lease on our old air port, that has been vacant for allmost 30 years.......
The weed growing thru the tar was 4 to 5 FEET tall! unfortunately i don't have a pic.
We had to start with using snow plows to knock the big stuff down, the weed whackers, and several spools of wire for them.
to get it to this point.

Spend the rest of the first year spraying repeatedly thru out he rest of the year.
lined up too many "Donated" plastic barrels to count, on both sides of the track for 1/4 of a mile on each side.(1/8 mile track)
All tho the barrels were retrieved from across the street! It took several days to hall them and line then up.
and took several week end to fill then up using one of the big water truck from the fire department....which was refilled to many time to count as well.
By the end of the first year the weeds were gone, and we got to see the real damage of the weeds.
Alltho the integrity of the track was sound............the cracks were deep, and wide in some places.

After the snow cleared last year we start cleaning and prepping the track(air port) for the Crack Sealing.
$1700 of material later. we had the cracks seal..............Inside of the barrels at least!

With some borrowed timing equipment we held our first race on memorial week end(2007) for the bikers that come up every year for the biker rendezvous.
Most came in to see a show.........Not realizing that they were the show
after some prodding we go most of them to give it a try and several that played all day long!

along with a pair of Honda that wanted to play.

We held 2 more races that year!
some youngsters having some fun

as well as there dads trying to show then how it done.....talk about a elephant on a piss ant!!!!

any on remember seeing this car on a show called Pinks

This years memorial week end was a flop as it rained all the way up to the day of the race.............But our local racer came out and supported us once again.

the biggest problem we have had is the big power vehicles can't show there stuff as our starting line............ well the pavement is vary, vary course!

And here is a close up!!!!!!

Not only is it hard on drag slicks but you can only get, maybe, 60% traction from the surface.
So 4 layers of a special seal coat was applied to the starting line to improve traction for the drag tire race cars.

after some paint and rubber added from our last race.

as well as our first set of Bleachers

Our last race, we were a bit clustered and unorganized for the 42 racers that we had............so this is our latest upgrade.
Painting lines and cutting the sage brush out for truck and trailer racers.

Can now hold or have 45 racing stalls with 8 capable of a truck and trailer.

What i believe is going to be our logo!!!!!

U.C.M.A does a lot more then drag racing such as this pic of last Feb ice/snowmobile racing on a Frozen lake!
