I know there was some talk about timing chains breaking. I used a rollmaster on my 401. It's a billet timing chain set with BOTH gears made from billet steel (I have seen some advertised as billet sets but the cam gear is cast). Rollmaster makes a billet set for the AMC 258. The crank sproket has 9 keyways for +8,+6,+4,+2,0-2,-4,-6,-8, and the cam sproket is billet steel...alot lighter than a cast sprocket. Falcon sells them for $115.00 on EBAY. They also started selling JP billet sets for the AMC 258. Thay are a little cheaper, but looks like the same quality with induction hardened gears.

I think they may even sell shorter chains for line honed blocks.

That looks like something to try. I use the Cloyes adjustable double roller out of habit mostly. Thanks for the heads up. Do you have the weights, that would be really good for the record.

Sorry I don't. I just know the one I used on my 401 was real nice and the cam gear weighed a lot less than the cast gear. The 2 degree increment crank sprocket was nice also.

Hate to bring this old thread up, but I see some people listing the Rollmaster Timing set and the JP Performance set as fitting the 4.0L.

Falcon lists the JP as fitting the 4.0L, and someone else lists the Rollmaster as fitting the 4.0L
Any truth to this? Might be an option for my rebuild. Price is good too. Are these stronger than the Cloyes double rollers?

They fit, don't know that they are any stronger, but seem made of high quality items and excellent adjustability, If you run their site back you will find some interesting timing gear sets.

Yeah, I've seen some of the sets. Pretty neat. But would their set possibly be weaker than a Cloyes double roller?

I have only used the Cloyes on the I6. Just don't know if one chain set is stronger or weaker.

Yeah, thats the set i have under my timing cover too. Sure does look good. I suppose time will tell about strength. Then again i don't have an outragous bump stick in the hole either
