Minimum for a stroker?

Post by grainofsalt »

So I was playing with this calculator: http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/co ... lator.html

Would I be OK with just having : 1986 258 crank, .030 bore IC944s, And Ford 24Lb injectors? I would be requiring this to run on regular pump gas.

Do I need to deck the block?

I would like to keep the stock cam to keep costs down.

Should I bore out the TB as well?

Thanks!!

It seems that this is the stroker recipe you're aiming for:

4.6L "poor man's" stroker

Jeep 4.2L 3.895" stroke crank
Jeep 4.0L 6.125" rods
Keith Black UEM-IC944-020 forged pistons
9.25:1 CR
Stock 4.0 camshaft
Ported HO 1.91"/1.50" cylinder head
Mopar/Victor 0.043" head gasket
0.070" quench height
Ford 24lb/hr injectors for '87-'95 engines, Accel 24lb/hr injectors for '96-'04 engines, '98 Chevy LS1 25.2lb/hr injectors for '05-'06 engines

Apart from the 258 crank, IC944 pistons, and oversize injectors, any other parts you'd need to complete the stroker build will either be reused stock parts or new stock replacements.

The only snag is that the block may need more than a .020 overbore. The oil was not changed and it was adding piston to the walls on #5 and #6. But it only had 170,000 and the cam looked OK.

What issues would a .030 Or .040 overbore change? Assuming that is necessary...

None except adding a bit more displacement. It'll still be a poor man's stroker but with a larger bore.

For some reason I was thinking that that would increase the compression. But after playing with the calculator, It doesn't affect it as much as I originally thought.

Thanks!

Also what do these numbers mean on the block left stamping: WL141453 and on the right (front) there is: 710MX29 And below that line: CCCCCC3

Does the CCCCCC mean that I have oversized cam bores?

Thanks!

Edit: I found the FAQ page, http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/viewt ... ?f=34&t=52 710MX29 is the date code, But Why are there six Cs?

That means the block was manufactured on 29th October 1997.

Only thing I could find in my '01 shop manual is a chart showing piston size variations with letter codes from A thru F. A 'C' piston measures 3.8763" to 3.8767".
I have no idea if that is stamped on your block, but since there are 6 'C's, it kinda makes sense...

The pistons are about 3.84" I did not clean them up as they are shot. The skirts all have an "F" cast on them.

So, I may have oversized camshaft bearing bores, I'll have to go by the machine shop and check.

The machine shop called today to make sure that they were getting the right water pump. So now I need to find some injectors. Is Bosch (0 280 155 849) or Ford motorsports(FMS-M9593-A302) a good choice, Or should I get the ACCEL brand? (ACC-150824)

On ebay, "fuelinjectorconnection" has 24lb 99-2004 Jeep 4.0 injectors for 145 shipped that I am leaning toward at this moment. (They say that they have both styles of injectors)

Any links would be appreciated!

Also would a '99+ intake with the 99+ fuel rail (with the damper) or my '98 intake/fuel rail be better for performance/economy?
