im needing new valve springs, im not wanting to machine my head to fit springs and id rather not spend $135 on mopar springs if i dont have to, any other options?

Running stock on my daily driver 4.9l with .450 lift. Works great

so the stock springs will be fine with .450 lift? will that shorten the life of the stock springs? everything ive read shows they arent rated for that much

It is strange.. they are supposedly only good for .44 although the Mopar Performance 229AC has .45 lift and recommends stock springs. Thats what i run and it works fine.

I contacted Comp Cams last week asking for cam(s) that would work with the stock springs. They responded back suggesting a custom grind that had .448 E lift, which about the same as the Comp 68-201-4 (which I bought instead). Confirms to stay under .450 lift a bit more.

Measured my stock 2001 springs... compressed in a vise, they coil bind (solid) at 1.121".
With an installed height of 1.64" , that leaves 0.519"..... subtract the 0.060" safety margin, and they should be good for 0.459" lift.
I'm using stock springs with a mild Crower cam, and it''ll go to 5000 rpm without any issues.

Ok so should I be fine with my stock springs with 250k on them or should I put new in?

Get some new springs, they don't cost much, about $3.50 each from Northern Auto.
I should ask what year you are working on. The 2001 springs I checked were conical springs (smaller O.D. on one end) used on '96-up. Earlier springs would have different specs.

yeah i was just getting ready to spend money on performance springs, new stock would just be a drop in a bucket

My comp cam failed <2000 miles. Built a zillion engines never lost a cam before. Proper break-in, Joe Gibbs high ZDDP oil all the right stuff... were thinking now that the comp cam did not meet the hardness requirement and was defective.

The springs i ran with that cam had 95# closed and <250# open with coil bind at .550

I'm using stock springs on an Erson cam with .448 lift. Shimmed them for max pressure with .060" to coil bind. Think it worked out to about 100 closed and 225 open. Have almost 7k on the engine now with no problems....
