reuse, what can and cannot be?

Hey guys, just sent the block, head and rods off to the machine shop to get prepped. Now I just need to know what can be reused of whats left. It was my DD so it is complete from drain plug to resivour cap.

Also what can i do to clean up what i have? Like my throttle body, intake man, valve cover and water pump in such.

Can i sand blast things like my intake man, water pump, valve cover, timing chain cover, oil pan?

what should i invest in and get new/upgrade?

You can pretty much reuse everything metal, of course replace all gaskets. I would bring the valve cover, timing cover, and oil pan to the machine shop and have them clean it. You can use kerosene, brake cleaner, carb cleaner,etc to clean them, but its just easier to let the machine shop clean the parts. I would replace the spark plugs as well as distributor and rotor if they haven't been done recently. The throttle body you can clean with some seafoam and a tooth brush. Remove the IAC valve (not the 90* part on the throttle body, just the valve itself) and clean inside there well along with the valve. If you can grind aluminum you can open up the t-stat housing a bit and smooth it out. Same with the oil filter adapter.

Be careful what you sandblast/bead blast....you don't want any of the abrasive getting into bearings/seals (water pump) or inside the engine. The intake manifold is likely to have some sticky gunk inside it which will hold onto the sand until you start running the engine. If the valve cover or oil pan has a welded in baffle, you're likely to get sand stuck in there .... which will work it's way loose when the engine is running.... That's not good!

For cleaning solvents, I use a variety... soak in a 5 gal bucket of carb cleaner (NAPA), then a rinse in kerosene or diesel fuel. Final clean with hot water and Tide and blow dry. Purple Power is another potent degreaser.

I use purple power like no tomorrow, it is some gnarly stuff for sure :cheers: .
When it comes to the water pump should i invest in a high flow? i know strokers tend to run hot, mine is going to be turboed and i didnt read anything that gave advice on how to clean up the Intake man, i would assume just soak the hell out of it with PP (purple power) and rinse thoroughly.
I will probably pressure wash a lot of my stuff and only sand blast very simple things with no nooks or cranies, like the timing chain cover, oil pan (if no baffle) and the valve cover.

i will try and do as suggested with the T-stat, as it has a LOT of build up on it.

another thing i would like to ask about is the oil pump,
reuse?
rebuild?
new?
HighFlow?

Stock dizzy, champion plugs, and some 8mm plug wires?

I would get a new oil pump. As for the plugs you would want a colder heat range.

As for the plugs you would want a colder heat range.
Do you have a certain favorite? Champion? Bosch? Autollite?

A part number would be great!
