I am replacing the head in the next day or two. Is it best/easier to unbolt the manifolds and remove just the head or should i just unbolt the exhaust pipe and pull the head with the manifolds still attached. I have a hoist or manpower available to do it either way..just not sure which way to do it

I dropped the manifolds then pulled the head. If you have a cherokee the drivers side head bolt towards the firewall is a pain to get at to torque it to spec, ended up doing mine to match the feel on a properly torqued bolt with a long wrench .

When i did mine, i removed the head with manifolds attached. I didnt want to fuss around with tight areas to get the manifolds off first. Be advised that this method is best for two people or someone with a hoist.. the manifolds can make the head awkward and heavy(er). Removal wasnt so bad for me as assembly. I actually tore up a HG because i tried doing it myself.

I havent tried the other method, but im sure that it takes less time doing it with the manifolds attached.

No shit. Even without the manifolds is still heavy to lift off yourself. I did that once and it was the last time.
