OBDI vs OBDII for full engine control and adjustablity

I know the differences between them regarding reading codes but when you want to start adding power adders, what OBD is the most easy/least complicated and cheapest to work with? From what I've researched, if you want full control of fuel, timing and ignition, OBDII computers need a piggy back system. Is this true and if so, does it go the same for OBDI?

Yes you would need a piggy back. OBD I and 2 function in very similar ways.

stay with the OBD1. obd1 is alot more stupid and forgiving then the obd2

OBD I is more forgiving than OBD II when you do engine upgrades but keep it naturally-aspirated. However when it comes to forced induction, even that would need a piggyback computer like OBD II for proper fuel and timing control.

What kind of engine management system would be best for me? 4.6 stroker with a vortech supercharger running 6-8 or 8-10 pounds of boost and the use of water/meth injection. Im just looking for 300 horse power from the 1200-5200 rpm range. I want it to be reliable because its my DD and weekend warrior but I want to have some fun on the streets from stop light to stop light. Just an all around fun not over the top Jeep to drive. My Jeep is a '91 2-door XJ with a 5-speed AX-15 tranny ans NP231 t-case. And it has no factory AC and came from factory without carpet. Just the vinyl overlay to spray out to clean.
I found this ACCEL DFI Thruster EFI Engine Management Systems

Its very expensive but comes with everything but the wideband O2 sensor.
Any thoughts...?

That Accel unit is a stand alone unit. You remove the stock PCM and wiring and install the Accel. Judging from you knowledge level, you might not be able to use it very well.
Go with a piggy back and use an AEM FIC. You will also need a wideband. Or ask Rippmods what they recommend and perhaps they could supply a piggy back with a base tune.

Yeah that's what I've been told. Gonna go with the AEM Power F.I.C. 30-1913 and an AEM Wide band A/F Uego Gauge kit.

What about the 1991-2004 Split Second Piggy Back FTC-019 w/ Tune that 505 performance offers for $580.00? Is it like the AEM F/IC?

Another dumb question though... is it necessary to have an ignition control box once the AEM F/IC is installed?

no you don't need any ignition control box the fic can control the ignition timing alone , and it can do all the things that the FTC does and even more so its definetley a better option imho.

No need for an ignition control box. One of the reasons the FIC is better is because it intercepts the injector signals and you modify the injector pulse width directly instead of messing with the MAP sensor's output. Messing with the MAP sensor can also mess with ignition timing as well. The FIC also has excellent data logging, has two programs which can be changed as the flip of a switch, can have a wideband output brought into it and log that, has two additional outputs/modifiers, has its own MAP sensor, and has a programmable 12v output.

So I wont need to buy or mess with one of those adjustable MAP sensors?
Will I need to intercept the MAP sensor with F/IC or will I not mess with that?

I would intercept or T into the stock MAP sensor just to reference it for logging purposes

I also have a blown stroker with an OBD1 system. Did the AEM work out for you? Any wiring troubles? I have all old school vacuum controls, boost a pump, MSD6 BTM , apexi neo, and vortech super fmu. Needless to say things could be better. I called Split second about 6 or 7 years ago and they were unsure if their piggyback would work with OBD1.
Anyone know for sure that these (or any) controllers work with OBD1 ???
