You should not have to build up the transfer case if you have a NP231J -or- NVG231J as they put this same transfer cases behind V8's of much greater power and heavier vehicle.

My 2002 Dodge Durango and my 1993 Dodge Dakota both ran them behind a 5.9L and 5.2L V8, respectively. ;)
I have a 4.6L STOKER in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler with 4.5" lift on 35" BFG MT and 4.56:1 gears.

Golen build good strokers but it'll be cheaper and more fun to build your own.
