Engine Block Help!!

I currently have 2001 TJ Wrangler with an oil filter mounted directly to the engine block. See picture 1. I bought an 2001 Cherokee motor which I am currently building it to a stroker motor. Upon disassembling my current TJ motor, I noticed the tapped holes for the alternator bracket were different from the 2001 Cherokee motor. Has anyone ever tried fitting the 2001 Cherokee motor in the TJ? Also, looking at the Cherokee motor, the oil filter location is different than my TJ oil filter mounting. Are there any TJs built with this kind of oil filter mounting? Please provide the year if there were any so that I can cross check the bracketry.

The TJ Never came with the side mounted oil filter but you can just remove your oil filter and theaded adapter from the TJ and install it into the XJ Engine...
The 00+ TJ engine uses different accessories then the XJ engine does but as long as you do not have A/C on the TJ you can just use the XJ accessories which is based on the older 91-99 layout but with the 00+ electronic connections...

The blocks are different; accessories will not mount, you may have problems with motor mounts and the water pumps are clearly different.
99'-2004 Grand Cherokee & 00'-2006 Wranger are the same blocks.

water pump all have same bolt pattern so just use your tj water pump. alt should be the same just in different location. but all the blocks should have the same holes to use your acc, if not come up with a mix between the two that will work. i only run like a 28 or 38 inch belt one mine(i cant remember for sure cause i have 5 jeeps to work on) the only acc i have are alt, water pump, ps pump, so that makes only 5 pulleys.

No they don't. The blocks are very different. Accessory mounts, engine mounts, water pump mounts, etc. See the links in the last two posts here:

Good block for a 2000+ Jeep Wrangler is a casting number: 53010327AB -or- 53010328AB again found in 1999-2004 Grand Cherokee and 2000-2006 Wrangler.
There have been attempts to install a Grand Cherokee 4.0L into a Cherokee = fail that only leads to

. This is no

and I hope that you don't keep trying

.
I do enjoy these emoticons... they rock.
