I have reflected upon several threads on this site inclusive of
Cylinder Head FAQ and those comparing differing heads to the 0331 cylinder head but none address this specific question.
What is the combustion chamber volume of the 0331 Cylinder Head?
In my research off site I have found the following but have not been able to validate.
0331 Cylinder Head 99-06 55.22-58-22cc

That's the quoted combustion chamber volume for all 4.0 heads from '87-'06. Three 7120 heads and one 0331 head that I've cc'd were in the middle of that range at 56.5-57.0cc.

Thank you very much for that bit of information!
We are currently looking to control the CR through increasing the combustion chamber volume.

Anyone have pointers for where to remove this material to avoid problems?

If you have a spare old head gasket, scribe lines on the head around the outer edges of the gasket bores. If you're going to enlarge the chambers, just grind a small amount of material from the chamber edges in the areas that are less than 3mm from the exhaust valves. This will unshroud the valves but don't go further than your scribed lines.
Otherwise just lightly grind the chamber surfaces smooth and polish them.
