really like the power from the 4.7L V-8 in the newer grand cherokees. will a stroked 4.5L run bout the same?

The Mercedes V8's in the Grand Cherokees and Dakota/Durango's are only rated at 235hp and 295 lbft torque, that's similar HP and LESS torque than a Jeep 4.6 stroker.
I don't know how much more the MIL's Dakota crew cab 4x2 is over my Wrangler but I drove it for a week last year on vacation and I'll take my Wrangler with the worn out 4.0 any day over the V8.

The 4.7L HO is rated 270hp and 330 lb-ft stock. I would go with a 4.7L HO V8 over a stroker. Remember those ratings are stock. Mods will make it more and can be built for more as well.

I know this discussion was concerning a STROKED 4.7L and a gutless 4.7L V8 but my 5.2L Dodge Dakota screams. I have considered moving the engine, transmission and transfer case (NP231D) over to my Jeep Wrangler. It's more hassle than I want. Anyway, the 4.7L V8 is not a torque moster.

I have an 05' Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 and have a lot of time in 4.0's and strokers. The reason for 4.0's and strokers in my case are spec racing and for the daily driving, emissions testing. I could make a V8 pass emissions, but if I was going to swap a V8 into one of my wheelin' jeeps, it definately wouldn't be the 4.7. I swapped v-8's before, but bang for your buck will be stroker.

There are so many chevy ls based combinations that make a lot more power for a lot less money than the 4.7.
