How to deal with a vendor

I have ordered a 4.2 crank from a vendor over a month ago. This vendor does not keep in touch ether with email or phone. When I do get a hold of them, I am told all the new cranks are on backorder, from China. Then I am told they have some re-manded 0.010/0.010 units for the same price and they could ship one out. Over two weeks and nothing. Then they said that their re-mand units are coming from Massachusetts and the hurricane has disrupted shipping. I do not want to list the name of the vendor yet, just wanting to know what you all think I should do. Ideas???

From China? I don't know about that. I could probably guess which two vendors it could be. Cancel the order and find another remaned crank someplace else. I hope that wasn't a Scat crank coming from China.

The problem is there are too many of ya strokers out there. All the cranks supplys have dried up.

I have sent my 4th E-mail to them, am hoping they respond soon. I am loseing my shop space in about 2 weeks and may have to tow the whole mess 15 miles to my overstuffed garage. All block work has been done, Icon 944 pistons hung on rods, head job done and ported. Its a 4.7L

There are not too many vendors out there, easy to guess but I want to try giving them some more time. :frustrated:

Used OE cranks are available, the problem is they call one or two places and if they don't have one they don't exist!?, and personally I can't believe what people are paying for those CHINESE! SCAT cranks, YES the forgings for all Scat products are from china!

From what I read the Scats are cast in China, but the finishing machine work is done here.

Ok, I don't want to turn this into a "Want Ad" but if someone has a lead on a crank, PM me. But I am not rich.

I have put a dispute in with PayPal and they (vendor) have 28 days to respond.

That's what I understand, the raw parts are made to our specs under supervision?, then machined over here, haven't heard anything bad about them?

Where are you?, shipping might be a killer of the deal, sounds like you're on the east coast?, cranks are to found out here.

Well after a month, the vendor has refunded my money. I would not have been a pain in the a$$ if the vendor had just kept updating me with a email. I was told that the NEW cranks from China were on backorder to him and then he offered a remanufactured 0.010/0.010 one with the adapter but they were stuck in the NorthEast due to the huricane. Today he called me and said he had a crank to ship me, IF I were to end the dispute on PayPal. I said I would end it when I got a Tracking number. A few hours later I got a message from PayPal that a refund will be coming.

So if you want to deal with 505 Performance, don't expect to get timely updates and if the weather is bad, your parts ether.  I kinda understand the weather, but lack of email updates, no.

All is square. I got my money back. I have found a complete 258 engine for $75 thanks to IH 392 pointing out a Craigslist ad that had just popped up. It is a 12 CW :slobber: and may only need the rod journals turned down to 0.010".

Like I said, the only problem I had with Zach and 505 Performance was the lack of email updates. Will I order from them agian? Only if they were to tell me the item is instock and promise to give me updates. Sorry that just me.

Do you mean that they are easilly found there? If that's the case can you keep an eye out for me, from your sig you're in Orygun?!? Yeah shipping would be a beast for me as well, but I'd just have one of the Parental units pick it up & hold it for me till my next road trip, I drive UT->OR & back a couple times a year to visit Dad...

Apparently compared to other parts of the world!???, right after Dave posted his location I hit the Seattle Craig's List and there it was! Muad'Dib (Chris) got his for FREE! off of the Bend Craigs List, I got my 12 CW crank for FREE! out of an International truck one of my friends parted out, I bet my dad has one or two or three sitting in his garage?, my boss has at least two sitting in the corner at work, they are often found complete for cheap as a CJ has received the CHIVY SB conversion.
Don't limit your search to Jeeps, after all they are AMC's! and International used MANY! of them also.
