Been lurking for about a month and now it is time to pull the motor out and get to work!!
1979 CJ7 with 258 and 3 speed trans. My "recipe" so far (with questions) is below:
"Stock" 258 short block bored .030
4.0 clearwater head (what rockers? 4.0 or 258 push rods?)
4.0 intake (what year? what fuel rail? what lb injectors?)
4.0 exhaust header (recommendations?)
4.0 or 258 cam (stock or upgrade?)
Salvage yard engine harness (gotta find it yet)
Hesco dampner and crank sensor
Hesco speed sensor
Any other recommendations?
I know I am repeating some things, but I will be trying to accumulate everything over the next couple weeks while the 258 is being rebuilt.
Thanks in advance!!!!!!

with all the 4.0 jeep around you would be better off going with all 4.0 parts, (exept crank/rods). you can find good blocks far good price. if it was me i would find a cheap cherokee with the HO (91-95) to use as a donor, then you woud have most if not all the parts you would need.

having seen many an eagle owner go a similar route, i too believe you would be best served to grab yourself a rolled jeep and do an engine swap, and maybe a poor mans 4.5 stroker. also, at least use the 4.0 cam, its got a nicer profile than the 258 cam.
