What exactly does ping sound and feel like?

I've been told that if I have ping then I'll know it, just like they say about death wobble. I always wondered what was death wobble until I installed my 4" lift and Ford 8.8, I almost pooped myself. I run a 9.7 DCR but I'm running E85 which means that I can run a higher compression ratio. Since I found nothing wrong I trimmed my CPS to advance my timing a bit. I just want to know what to expect if I take it too far. I only have heard ping on the adjustable CR engine in the engine lab at the University of Michigan, and even then I didn't recognize it so easily. My exhaust is really loud, almost annoying. My muffler doesn't do much muffling.

How do I tell if I have knock? Will I feel a loss of power? Will it sound like marbles in a coffee can? Can someone point me to a good example on youtube?

knock is kinda easy. have you ever worn boots and walked across a wood floor? it sounds really close to that and it'll change speed with the motor so as the motor revs faster the knock will get faster as well

Pinging sounds like the marbles rattling inside a spray can when you shake it. The only thing that sounds similar is a rattle from the timing chain when the tensioner is worn.
