jeep xj hood vent.

Post by motorcycledrew »

I live in Colorado, and this summer got hot. 4% humidity and 90 degree plus temps was just too hot for my jeep. I have a 1993 jeep cherokee xj sport. The engine is a 4.0l highoutput. Over the month of june and july, my jeep just couldn't take it anymore. When driving from 10,000 feet above sea level back down to 5500 was no problem, it is the trip back that hurt. Under hood temps rose to just over 220 and that's when I sprung into gear. Venting the hood was necessary or I was going to blow something. Here is what I came up with. 14 one inch holes with a protective screen underneath. I place the holes on the drivers side to allow the heat from the exhaust manifold to rise quickly. I used a perforated steel screen to cover the holes from underneath.
My under hood temps dropped by 40 degrees.
