start to my stroker recipe

think i figured some of the setup out.
what cam would be best cam? i want to keep this on 87 octane pump gas if possible. what compression ratio works with 87 octane pump gas?
4.2 crank and 4.2 rods
speed pro 677CP pistons .020?
Mopar 0.043" head gasket
factory head ported

Sounds like you're doing a copy of my "poor man's" set-up with a 9.25:1 CR, so I suggest you keep the stock cam. I run mine with the hottest RC12LYC plugs and use 87 octane when it's less than 95*F outside.

can you use any aftermarket cam with that setup?

Yes you can but why bother when there's only a modest performance gain in doing so? I originally had the Crane 753905 cam (CompCams 68-231-4 has similar specs) in mine and I hardly saw any difference performance-wise going back to the stock cam, but the valvetrain became a lot quieter though and gas mileage also slightly improved so I was happy.

with this is it necessary to zero deck the block? is there any builds out there without zero decking the block?

Not unless you want to be anal about getting a tight quench height. Zero decking will increase the CR so if you want to run low octane fuel, you'll need to create a few cc by polishing the combustion chambers and piston dishes to bring the CR down again.
