Cylinder head

I've done the search thing and am unable to find an answer to a question I have. I'm bulding a long rod 4.6 low buck stroker. The question is: will a stock head work or do I need to have to go with a roller valve setup?

Not sure what you mean by "roller valve setup" but I guess you're referring to roller rocker arms.
You can use the stock head with stock stamped steel rockers.

 no such thing, those use expensive pistons.

I used stock head, cam and lifters with my long rod 4.6L. I would have liked to have ported the head but did not due to time constraints.

I do notice top end falls off past 4200 rpm but low end torque is pretty much amazing.

There is now if you look at my stroker recipes. :D
A set of Keith Black IC944 pistons costs $416 so that's not much more than the cost of a set of 677CP pistons ($140) plus a set of reconditioned 4.2 rods (average $200 in ebay). Therefore the only reason left for using 4.2 rods in a stroker build these days is if you want to build a close copy of my "low CR rockcrawler" recipe.

It's about $120 for recon rods if you use the ones that came in the 258 core engine you use for your stroker.

That's true but then the 258 crank would also cost a lot less.

Well my '75 12cw crank engine was put on the back of my flatbed when I wasn't looking! can't get much cheaper than that! :rockout: and I sold the rods to Muad'Dib for $40 and he paid just shy of the $120 I posted for the recon of them, so that's about the going rate for a full recon of a set of rods, but if you think your rods are ok to run it could be a lot cheaper.

got my 80 12 cwt the same place as my short rods. wailed a porcupine at 140kmh, popped my oil filter (it was larger for more filter capacity) and the rest is history. cleaned up to 10/10 tho, cant compain.
