Got to AutoX my Jeep today. . .

Post by gradon »

at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas, VA with the NCCBMWCCA. She made me proud and beat out some m3s, mustangs, and other makes(think I made it in the top 50%). I'll post up the results when they become available(usually 2-3 days). There might be some footage as well. A couple of the guys also own Jeeps and are now interested in stroking them.

You must have Copy / Paste link... you may want to fix it.
If it feels right, then STROKE it!
You're lucky that hundred shot of CAPS LOCK didn't blow the welds on the forum!!

Just get the id of the video you want to post and surround the ID with the you tube tags. Example:

Code: Select all

Will look like so:

When you create a new post or reply to one, you have formatting buttons at the top of the area that you type into.. thats where you can press the YouTube button and it will automatically insert the youtube tags for you. Then all you need to do is put the ID of the video inside these tags as shown above.

Yeah that's the exhaust note at 1-2K RPM from 33+. I'm close to scratching my itch to test out how the 2.5" db by Corsa exhaust for the 97-99 TJs sounds(love the rsc36 I have on my M3), but have a feeling I'll have to use my current 2.5" SS tailpipe instead of the 3-piece one w/ fancy tip that the Corsa comes with, thus will spend $350 for a muffler(straight-through), though I prefer the sound over my current delta-style Magnaflow. I also prefer the sound my old Borla made over the Magnaflow, so might consider an XR style for $100.

Pretty sweet. Until you try AutoX, you can't understand how much of a thrill it is.

I was able to take my wagon (prepped for drag racing, not AutoX) out for a day on a course and I was giggling the hole time. You could see the rubber fly off the front tires in the corners. The instructor kept saying, step on the throttle like there are egg shells underneath it. What can I say, old habits die hard  In the sweeping corner, I found the limits of a factory limited slip.

It is an adrenaline rush for sure and I really enjoyed proving what my Jeep could do: beat 2004-06 M3s, 2008 Z4 Mcoupe(love these and the Z3 Mcoupes), 135i and 335i(both twin turbo), 96 M3, Mini Cooper S, 318, 325, 330, 05 Neon SRT4 ACR, 05 neon SRT4, 2011 5.0 Mustang, 93 Mustang, 2003 Corvette, 2010 MazdaSpeed3, 2005 RX8, 2009 Miata, 2002 Mustang, 98 Eclipse GST, RX8 R3(?), 2011 Mazda 3, 1992 Miata, 1996 Miata, 1998 Prelude, and some others. The next one on the radar is in July. One group that I've been a member with for two years won't let me autoX the Jeep, even with the proof from the BMWCCA event, since they'd have to allow other SUVs and trucks to compete(not worth the potential flip, insurance wise). Anyhow, the Corsa arrived Tuesday, so today I'm going to mock it up and see if I have to cut my mid/testpipe(Corsa muffler is longer than Magnaflow)and if I can use the TJ tail with the fancy 3" Corsa tip.

I autocrossed the Jeep again yesterday at Regency Furniture Stadium(Blue Crab) in Waldorf, MD with the NCCBMWCCA club. Blue Crab is a nice, large lot with good pavement, and elevation and pitch changes. I had five clean runs(or so I think) and consistently improved to a 54.4s on my last run(my goal was 55s from watching 1st heat runs). Fastest time of the day was 45.8s from a tuned 350z with race tires. Nick's best was a 51.x in his '98 NSX. My other brother Andrew got a 56.x in his '96 240sx. Two friends, Tim Walker and Jerry Byrd, got into the 47s and 48s with a mr2(I p&p'd the heads, intake, and exhaust manifolds for the camry 3.0l v-6 swap) and a STI--both in the top 10% as usual. Good times and good job on the Jeep taking the abuse--footage and results to be posted soon!

I'm gonna be auto-xing the Jeep again on Saturday at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, MD. I'll probably do my runs from 3-5pm, but will be there at noon. I'm willing to let people be passengers for 2 of the 5 runs and there might be some extra untimed runs afterwards.

I swapped out the classic 5-stars w/255/60-15s Bridgestones for the silverstars w/ 225/50-16 Yoko Advan Neovas(awesome performance tire), so it's sitting a lil lower:

Wow, those smaller tires (low profile) give that Cherokee a Range Rover-ish look!

Good luck with your SCCA type course... :wiggle:
I have a 4.6L STOKER in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler with 4.5" lift on 35" BFG MT and 4.56:1 gears.

So the uncorrected results are in. They swapped Tim and I's 3rd run, cause I put down the clean 57.09. I don't know what happened to my 4th run either:

Anyhow, we rocked and if we had wider tires than 225s. . . :o
