Has anyone tried installing an m81-A Melling HV oil pump and find it NOT fit under the the stock oil pan. 96 block and 97 pan. Searching yields no other finds. Theres probably ~.25" interference.

*edit* - Ma bad, the part number that doesnt fit is M167HVS.

That is normal with the high volumn pump. look in the project section , most guys clearance the pan with a hammer

Feeling like a dumbass. Thanks for pointing it out. Sudo Chops got good info on his first page. Will post pics of the pan later.

I actually removed part of the baffle on my '99 pan... saved me from having to REALLY wail on the pan and only just nudge it a bit with the 3 lb sledge.

I just removed my Melling HV oil pump, it ate my distributor gear and cam. I talked to Hesco and they told that HV oil pumps on a jeep 6 cyl will eat dist gears, I learned the hard and expensive way. ********Results may vary*********

If your bearing clearances are correct you don't need a HV oil pump.
