The PCM can correct for smaller injectors in closed loop (crusing and part throttle) but may run lean in open loop (wide open throttle is where you need to worry about it). For example I was traveling north to swap the head on a stroker (lose valve guides causing a ticking) and I had a long steep grade to climb. To add to that I had some idiot in a saturn tailgating me. Previous to this it had sat for a few weeks, the battery went dead and the Apexi lost its correction values (unknown to me at the time). I put the pedal down, didn't watch my wide band and when I got to the destination the ticking was gone. I went ahead and swapped the head any how because I knew some of the valve guides were too lose. When I pulled the head off I found out why the ticking had stopped. Since the Apexi had lost its correction valves which added fuel at WOT it was running. Lean enough to heat the exhaust valves up enough to have them sucked up into the exhaust port, tulip-ing them. The valves were in the guides running on pretty much virgin stem part. Good thing that head was junk anyways.

If you have a wideband you may want to keep an eye on it.

That does suck. And I know what that is like. Possibly a piston skirt broke? Would make sense. Part of the piston skirt broke off, made the falling sound then the piston started to wobble in the bore, etc. Or a rod bolt came off.

Thats what I thought , You know I've been hearing a small tick'' tick'' tick'' Hummm'' the last 600 miles or so'' and Like a good boy scout I would drive it over to my machinist shop
and we would dive under my truck, and I personaly would point out that sound, you can hear it best under the drivers side and it allways sounded to me like it was coming from
the exhust bank. Well he did'nt thank to much about it, he said it sounded like an injector to him, I dont take these things very likey I knew there was something hitting
something'' every time I came home from Death Valley I would drive it over to ther shop Twice'' Its a good thing I stoped drive'n to Death Valley and been leaving it here in R/C
Its a 300 mile round trip and back, and gas price's went up and my new stroker would'nt drive 300 miles a tank, befor it did'' but not any more, Stroker'' AKA ( Gas sucker )
Ho ya ! its a good thing its still under warranty

err... did you have a problem with the " key or something? The problem with some machinists is that they have been around loud machines and loud engines most of their lives that they have hearing problems.

Yep'' I bleave that, they cant hear ***** well some of them, Well anyways they where aware of this small ticking sound, if that had anything to do with it or not ?
I cant wate to get this motor to there shop, and take the pan off, we'll see what really happened ! do you thank is it possible when the piston is all the way down
the connecting rod would hit the inside of the piston skirt, and finely when the motor started to loosen up a bit, the rod finely hit it hard enought to brake it ?
