Exhaust and Air Intake Systems?

I am looking at ditching the 30year old exhaust system (piping, cat, muffler), since I just installed a new Inline 6 on my Scrambler and was looking for some good ideas of what I should replace it with. I also would like some ideas on Air intake systems and if Cold Air Intake Systems are worth it. Thanks.

I'm a fan of the Borla header. Since the exhaust is on the same side as the intake, most "cold air intakes" with cone filters suck up hot air unless you box them out(some come with a shield that helps a little). I'm part of the "been there, done that, and ditched that k&n filter" that let in a lot of fine dust(don't recommend it but do like the plastic intake that came with the fipk). I switched to an amsoil eaau3090 nano-fiber dry filter(very nice).

Just to add on to this thread. I am installing the Howell TBI kit and if anybody has done this? If so, what air intake system do you have installed.

Would that amsoil filter be good for offroad, mud, sand. I run the kn fipk on my tj,they recomend a "outerware" filter for dusty conditions,i need to get one.

You can get a sock to put over the amsoil just like you can with the k&n that keeps the big chunks out of the pleats. I think you'd want to stick to an enclosed box like the stock one or a canister style for a cone if you plan on doing muddy, dusty, wet stuff.

I use the Amsoil EA AU3590 6" x 9" on my Volant intake. I got tired of oiling K&N filters and wanted something that filtered better. The Volant comes with a cheezy shield that won't fit the Amsoil filter and I intend to build an air box around it. If you are traveling in a dusty environment I would recommend a sock over it. If you are off roading where you might see deep water, get a snorkel or use the stock air box.
