Jeep Strokers

Hey everyone. I am new to cars and need everything in lamemans terms. im only 16 and my dad is getting me my first car. i really want a jeep but he says they are too slow and i read that this makes them go faster...details on cost and how it works and where to get the parts plz

well we drove hem and he thinks itd be too hard to get on the hwy plus he doesnt think i would be able to go fast enough front end if i needed to get out of someone way

Shouldn't be that slow. Its not a hot rod, but the 4.0L is no slouch. Try a lighter vehicle like a Cherokee. I don't think you could find a heavier Wrangler than a Rubicon Unlimited.

My Jeep is a '97 Wrangler with the stock 4.0 and five speed, it'll bust the rear tires loose any time I want it to and the new Auburn posi in the back makes sure BOTH rear tires are turning and it'll bark them in second if I dump the clutch!, hitting 80 mph on a freway on ramp is no problem! I have the speeding ticket to prove it too!

If you think a late modle six cylinder Jeep is slow you must be used to driving cars like the Subaru WRX, Roush Mustang or a Dodge Viper???

or did the one you drive have 38" tires and the stock 3.55 gears in it?

it was 3.8L
i want the rubicon bc of the looks and the offroading capabilities. The cherokee doesnt have as much of that cool factor that i like.
The problem isnt top end speed its just how long you have to have it floored to get there. is there anyway to give it a boost up front. ive also heard you can put a v8 in it? would that be much more? ive heard AEV does it.
what does "stroking" it do and how much more would that be?

thanks guys im a little ignorant as this would be my first car.

if its a 3.8L it must be a pretty new unit, probly one of those 4 door things? and the strokers referred to here is the older ones with a different engine.

the term stroking means to increase the pistons travel

The 3.8L V6 in the '07+ Wranglers is the same 205hp/240lbft unit that's fitted in the Dodge Caravan. Hesco make a supercharger for that engine so you could contact Bennie and get more info. Alternatively you could spend a few extra $$$ and have a 5.7 or 6.1 Hemi V8 transplanted instead. Several Jeepers have done this successfully but it ain't cheap.

By the time you build up those weak 3.8's for real power and reliability off road, its just cheaper, easier, and more fun to throw the hemi in there. supercharging the 3.8 is risky, and the bottom end of them is just NOT built for high power applications (broken cranks, mains, etc)

With the kits out there, the swap into it loses ZERO daily driver manners, keeps A/C, power everything, I think you even get MDS.... while gaining V8 torque and HP.

To me its a no-brainer to find a Hemi take-out from a junkyard if you have a new enough jeep. I wish it was that easy to drop it into a '99...

sorry it didnt get my last post but instead quoted someone.

how much would yall expect it to cost to get a hemiv8 from a junk? how much to install?

im looking to spend under 30k total. is there another jeep wrangler thats as cool as the rubicn that wouldnt have that speed problem? 2 door rubicon maybe?

is there any chance next years model will be made w a v8 option. seems like it should bc so many ppl on google and such looking for more speed/acceleration.

were older models maybe lighter or anything?

You can do a lot with 30K. . . Most of us get here with under 3K. . .

You can get a whole lot for $30k. What's "cool" depends on you. If you really want a fast jeep get a SRT-8 grand cherokee

I just got a '05 grand cherokee (not srt

) with a 5.7 hemi..... it's no srt but.... much fun!
