Hello,
I recently put a reman 4.0 engine in my wrangler, everything went well, and the jeep runs awesoem again. i keep getting a p1391 intermittent loss of cmp or ckp code. i replaced both the crank and cam sensors, but the code keeps coming back. its a 1997 by the way. im just a little lost on what to do, and i figured somebody on here could help me out.
thanks
wes

Distributor might not be indexed correctly, but last time I had that code, it was right before my cam/distributor committed suicide. I'd take the whole distributor assembly out and inspect the gears for wear.

thanks! i took off the cap and wiggled the rotor. i had about 1/8-1/4 play...I manage an advance auto, so i ordered a new distributor, just to inspect, and of course, no play at all. so i took mine out and went to spin the shaft and it would hang up every half spin and was VERY hard to turn. i spun the new one and it was beautiful.
i took the cam sensor out of the old one and sure enough, the sensor was scraping the HELL out of the ring...I put the new dizzy in and reset the computer...so far NO CHECK ENGINE. THank again for your help.

No problem, glad you got it fixes. Keep an eye on the actual wear on the gear itself where it meshes with the cam. People have been having a lot of failures there (including 2 for myself) and this could be caused by something higher up in the dizzy getting wonky. Nobody can really say so far what's causing it though.
