'80 i4 swap to '97 4.2 flywheel???

Post by asemitch »

I'm doing a body off resto on a '80 CJ5 Replacing the 4 cylinder with a 4.0 I'm using a '76 304 Bell housing to mate the T176 4spd & a custom external slave cylinder. The 4.0 is from an '97 Grand Cherokee Larado with an automatic trans. I'm using a FI wrangler fuel tank and have a confident harness guy. I need advice on what flywheel to use???

there is a difference between the renix ones and obd1 ones, but i forget right now if there is a difference between the obd1 and obd2. id grab one from a 97+ though, just to be sure, or use the harmonic balancer trigger wheel adapter and whatever flywheel you want.

oh, and if you do use the balancer adapter and a 4.2 flywheel, grab the starter too, theyre different 4.0 to 4.2, and need to be matched

You'll need to modify the new bellhousing to accept the CPS, cut the hole and figure some way to mount the sensor too.
