I was checking my oil yesterday, and the oil on the dipstick was thick, like syrup

. I've never seen that before. I'm running castrol syntec 10w30 with a k&n filter that only have about 1,000 miles on them. what would cause that to happen? It's been really hot out here lately, from 100-109 hi's the past week, but usually it gets thin when hot. Any help/insite would be appreciated.

It is my understanding that when motor oil ages it shears to a higher viscosity than when new.
If you overheat the engine it's more pronounced.
something about anti-shear and anti-wear additives being consumed and TBN changes.
