Cylinder Head Bolts

Ok so my machinist messed up.

He had to sleeve three head bolt holes on the block because of cracks and he installed 7/16 inserts instead of 1/2 inserts.

Soooo I need to find three head bolts that will work. All three bolts are the longer ones that are on the outside of the valve cover over the intake/exhaust.

Do I have to find a special head bolt? I've heard a few things on here, are the bolts TTY? Is there a difference in TTY bolts?

One more question off topic: I was installing the bolts to check my piston to valve clearance with clay. (Lunati 63502 .507/.527, 0.008 deck clearance .043 mp head gasket. A little worried about clearance lol). Anyway do I need to pump up the lifters or find solid ones to get a good, real result?

I saw the other thread on head bolts and went looking for 80-86 258 ones. Turns out those are hard to find.

Luckily my machinist had three 7/16 bolts lying around that are just a few threads shorter than the regular 1/2" bolts. I hope this doesn't have any bad results since I'll have to torque those three bolts a little less....

I think the 258 engines used 7/16 headbolts..you might want to see if any of them match up better in length

Seems that no one has the 258 bolts though...

Headbolts.com list several sets of 7/16 bolts for the 4.2 engine. may or may not match up. You can also try the dealership if you only need a couple. my Dealer is pretty friendly if you give me the dimension and whether it needs a stud or not and I will see what I can do
