Giant HOLE at the top of the timing chain area of the block

Is this normal? It looks very sloppy. The first pic is a view from the top down with my finger poking in above the first lifter hole, the second is the hole from the timing chain area.

Yeah, thats normal. While we are looking at pictures, make sure you plug that hole directly above the cam!

I'll plug the hole with some COMP Cams lifters :)

When I saw that hole it was after the crank and camshaft were installed. It damn near gave me a heart attack because I was looking at it with the block upside-down and I first thought it was a hole to the water jacket.

I didn't search too long, it freaked me out and my quick Google-fu yielded no results.

i had a quick look for the thread, but couldnt find it. like i said there, someone told me that if i was feeling energetic i could file it clean and open it a little more.

Just found a similar hole in mine. I suppose it does no harm....
