just started assembling my stroker and the connecting rod bearings for the 258 rods are have about 1/16 - 1/8" of clearance on each side. ie; they are narrower than the rods by that much... i don't know if this is normal as i don't have the original 258 rod bearigns. it seems like the bearing should over the entirety of the rod surface and also the bearign surface on the crank...
a fast answer would be awesome as i'm currently assembling...

The bearing clearance should be .001-.003", with .0015"-.002" being optimal, so yeah something's up. The side clearance should be .010-.019"

Federal Mogul shows their AMC/Jeep rod bearings are .837" wide, don't know why they would vary form the OEM bearings.
The shell is narrower than the journal to clear the fillet radius.

A standard Jeep rod is 1.060, with the bearing width being .837, that does give you about 1/8' clearance per side.
