Flooding issue!!!

I'm having an issue with my 95 4.7 stroker. Its an intermittent problem with starting, and driving. The main issue is flooding while trying to start it. When it does start it runs rich. Not noticed really until heading down the road(at which time it starts heating up like its running very lean???). Then if you stand on it, it will stall out, not come back not come back until its turned off, then turn it back on which usually works fine. Start it back up and it will run great. I have thought map sensor, but that checks out fine.... I have no idea what could be causing this, Any ideas? All vacuum lines are fine... I hate just replacing parts. Still have the orange top injectors and realize there is a power loss there, That's my next upgrade but I don't believe that would cause this issue. Its ran and still does run fine at times. No check engine light!!!

I have done that, Hooked up to scanner today and everything is reading fine? I am starting to lean towards a head gasket failure

Although its prolly the most irritating of problems, I have beat the ever living crap out of this engine for the past 4 years, It has lived through 2 different jeeps! That's gonna be my weekend job, any other ideas are still welcome.
Why the Head gasket you may ask. Cause I have never seen an intermittent sensor issue, that would make a vehicle run that warm for a time period. Also effect the run ability and misfire that much under a load. Cool off then run just fine for 20 + miles again. I was able to make it backfire tonight by over revving it. Gonna wait for it to cool off then see if there is any coolant in the radiator. Thanks for the suggestions

Run a compression test cold/cool and then do it hot..you should have a giant difference if your head gasket is really screwed. How are the plugs. You state you think its starting rich..but then it gets hot like its lean? If its that lean it would ping away like mad. Then again its a modified jeep and could be anything..let us know. Check the oil when cold..see if its sludgy..how many miles

Coolant level is fine so that's not my problem. I am still gonna pull the plugs this weekend but must be a sensor issue.

I did a plug swap they where charcol black. Removed disributor and found the gear to be worn down a little. Replaced that, it appears that the distriburor contacts are only contacting on the edge? Could this be due to the play in the dizzy? Or is it possible to get this setup a tooth off?

What do you mean they are only contacting on the edge?

I look at the size of the rotor (like 1/2 - 3/4 inch wide!) then look at the contact on the distributor cap. (about 1/8 inch wide) You would think that with a rotor that wide it would contact the cap right dead center. That's not the case hear, its contacting the very outer edge of the cap contact. That's the best description I have.... Thanks again

The rotor should never actually touch the contacts on the distributor cap. The spark jumps from the rotor tip to the distributor. The spark should jump from the closest point

Right. I realize they don't touch one another. I don't think I am describing it properly. If you have a contact that spins around about 1/2 inch wide, and that at certain times is throwing a spark to a contact 1/8 inch wide. Why is it that its only carbon tracking half of that 1/8th inch wide contact. I guess my question is, Everyone says you cannot turn these distributors to dial in the timing right? So would this contact pattern put me one tooth off. Or is it tracking improperly due to the screwed up dizzy gear?

Since you replaced the dizzy gear, your distributor may need to be indexed,

My 87 XJ came from the factory with the dizzy gear 1 tooth off
Especially if you're getting light load part throttle misfires as well (~2000 rpm cruise on a flat road)
