Jeep Strokers

Ok I have my block, crank and everything else needed to assemble my engine except for connecting rods.The only place that I have been able to connecting rods is on Ebay and I am very leary on buying connecting rods on Ebay, so what I am wondering is where is a good place to order connecting rods that is a legit buisiness with a website or a number, or is ebay fine to get connecting rod from.

ATK engine rebuilders do have them. NAPA carries *some* ATK products however rods would be special order ( as i recall ~ $160)
I honestly would consider ebay. as long as it is 707 stamped casting/258 ( assuming you are going for short rod stroker) i would get used/non refurbished one and have machinist do it.
other option- junk yards... i mean it is not the crank, rods way easier.
I think i paid about 20/per rod to machinist to resize, shot peen rods, another $40 gets you ARP hardware...

See thats what I was wondering is how do i know that the rods on ebay are the 707 casting and not another one?

I'd hit the wrecking yard myself, 258's can't be that hard to get???

Im lucky to find a junkyard with jeeps in it around where I live, let alone an old one with a 4.2

Same here. Can't get any 258s around here and they want $900 for a full 4.0L engine. No bare blocks either. Its actually easier to find a V12 engine block for my 74 Jaguar than it is for my 2000 XJ.

I was at a local yard this afternoon. They had bout 4 XJ, 4 ZJ/WJ, 1 Tj that got Cash4Clunked. I personally would love to pull the engines out for the rods and block. Does anyone know if the crap that got poured into the Cash4Clunked engines destroys anything more than the bearings? IE would the block and rods still be good?

I don't know what area of the country you are from, probably somplace where things just rust away. Try going tohttp://www.car-part.com and put in your zip code, try looking for an engine from a 91 Wrangler, or a 76-86 cj

If you are only looking at the jeeps it's no winder you cant find a 258, look at the AMC's and Internationals, the COMPLETE engine I'm using for my crank came out of a '75 International 3/4 ton pickup, and I got it for FREE!

Well It's not jeep that is the problem, its that anything before 1990 is hard to find and wranglers are near impossible to find
