Stock up on those 258 cranks now!

With Mopar introducing the 4.7L stroker, the demand for 258 cranks will increase. My guess is that they will have pistons made to use the 4.0L rods, so the only part they will need from a 258 will be the crank, Prices will go up, supplys will become short.
I just checked Ebay, a reconditioned 258 crank with a 2" snout and bearings is listed for $345.00
Fill up that barn now!

It makes sense (to me) for Chrysler make more, they already have specs for it and the tools to make them. I dont think such a large corporation would introduce an engine if they dont know where their next crank will come from or if they have to run around buying autozone cranks. I thought I saw that one for 345 on ebay back when I was looking for my crank in 2007.

Is Mopar selling the 4.7 as a new engine or a modified reconditioned engine that will require a core? I agree about not selling engines not knowing where the next crank is coming from. I also wonder if the 258 crank is still used somewhere overseas in an engine like the VAM 282?

there is no way they could get a "reconditioned" crank past the bean-counters with a warrenty...

Isn't ATK building the engines for Chrysler? They probably use used cranks and rods.

I've heard that ATK is making the strokers for Chrysler as well. Maybe they just bought out that guy in Turkey with NOS cranks.

There were two 88-90 YJs at the JY today(crazy rays in jessup), one without the tranny and engine tilting down waiting for the pan to be dropped. . .
I didn't even go to the car side, where amcs and eagles sprout. . .
This is the first time that I noticed rows and rows of suvs w/ CFC spray painted orange blocks. Two 2001 XJs in mint body condition(one was all black w/tan leather). I only can hope that they had a cracked 0331(good time to sneak a true clunker in), otherwise someone's going to Jeep hell.

I had to tear up myself... I saw MINT and I mean I could not find visually ANYTHING wrong with body or undercarage, check the carpeting, floor pans didn't look like flooded.... welll it had red paint and tag.... it was painfull... I would have paid 5k for that XJ and drove another 200k w/o issues ( the thing had 70k miles on it). Clanker my @$$! I wanted seriously punch a puppy at that moment...there were 7 XJs 4 were tagged with paint and like 3 Grand cherokees....oh the insanity! at least i can get 4.0 parts on my local yard

i wanted heavy crank... i had to ship mine from Canada, but i got .010/.010 ...in US the best i've found only .020/.030
