94 jeep cherokee code 41

my check engine light came on the other night and the code that i retreived was trouble code 41* An open or shorted condition detected in the generator field control circuit. any body have this problem and knows how to fix it? i would think its something to do with the alternator

It means that the field (current controlling output of alternator) is grounded or cut. Look at the wires at your alternator and see if one of the small ones is broken/grounded.

wires looked good. turned out my alternator was bad, kicked off on me a day after
