This is the the block I yanked from the 96 that I bought off CL for $160(I installed the 75K 4.0 from my 96 and made a nice profit). I finally removed the head so I could start the P&P for my brother's manche project.

Looks like its part of the Jeep's top secret MDS system utilizing an infinite dish piston to eliminate compression. The hole should close up when its running.

I forgot to mention that when attempting to start this engine, the dipstick would blow out.

At the airport once I had a European ask me if my TJ was diesel or petrol. I can't wait to find what's inside my block but I bet it won't be that bad.

#1 was a 96 w/ 122K and that hole in the piston for $160: swapped in the 72K motor that I took out of my 96. #2 was a 95 Upcountry w/202K w/ "seized engine" that had a bad nss for $200. #3 was a 95 sport w/196K that had a blown HG and needed a head shave and valve job for $300. And the above is #4. Finally my years of Jeep experience is paying off! 1995 Avus Blue M3 once I sell this!
