Why not? Marcus in Australia did something similar, just with AW4 pans (he wanted a deep sump for the slushbox, and no-one makes one. So, he made one.) Just cut the top off of one cover - at the point where the wall goes vertical - and deburr. Cut the flange off of the other one and deburr. Weld together.

@SilverXJ - thanks much for the confirmation on swapping the valve covers. I figured it would be possible, but I hadn't gotten a confirmation from anyone, so I was leery about saying outright "It can be done."
