I have a 87 yj 258 auto, just started knocking I have a4.0 from a 88Xj we have a trip planed for memorial day and i dont have time to mess with wireing ,crank sensor ect.So will my 4.2 intake,dist.bolt on 4.0 I just need to make a quick-fix for now.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, with minor mods needed to intake manifold. Search for 4.0 head swap for details. Can't use mech fuel pump in a 4.0 block so you'll have to get a low pressure electric pump.
