Motor mock up
Hey all. Was wondering what the thought was of mocking up my block & head to determine my pushrod length( pistons being dished currently). Heres so far .004 deck height, .044 HG, .004 shaved off head(need to double check that with shop). This way I could order rockers & rods for assembly this weekend.
Thanks Dale
Thanks Dale

Re: Motor mock up
I'm going to run up to Summit & buy one, was wondering about putting shims for HG, basicly a mock up (until I can fully assemble when pistons are done) so I can get rods ordered. Since I'm using standard rods & lifters I believe this should get me close enough to order them.

Re: Motor mock up
Its always a good idea to do a mock up... Since it sounds like your in a time crunch, your idea seems fine since you cant actually put the head on yet.
If it were me i would wait untill i have the head on, and then start measuring etc.

If it feels right, then STROKE it!
You're lucky that hundred shot of CAPS LOCK didn't blow the welds on the forum!!

Re: Motor mock up
The problem with those pushrod checkers is that you need some way to measure it... I don't have a caliper that larger and my machine shop didn't either. I went with this one: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... CCA-7704-1 It starts out at 8.8" and each rotation equals .050".

Re: Motor mock up
Use a pushrod checker. The one I bought was from comp cams. I think it went from 8.800 to 9.800. One turn equals .050. Use the measurement from the pushrod. Do not use calipers to measure the pushrod checker. Your measurement will be off. Check out this link. On measuring pushrods: http://www.trendperform.com/measuring.html

Re: Motor mock up
Also, keep in mind that there are 3 different ways to measure pushrods.

Re: Motor mock up
Don't mean to jump in here, but buy a length checking pushrod and order what ever size it says you need. That is what I did and it worked. No math or guessing you are ordering the right length. Trend pushrods were the cheapest I could find, quality is excellent and fast shipping. I used a comp cams pushrod checker. Trend also sells one for the same price. It was well worth the $20.00.
