Re: New 4.6L stroker build
I put the XJ into storage Saturday with 600 miles. I drained the oil and came back today to check the bearings. They are fine! Nothing in the oil pan and everything else looks good. I am not saying that I am through with my problems, but this is a new record for my engine.
Oh yeah, when should I check them next?

Well hopefully your problems are solved. I think your cam bearing problems were a result of cam walk.

1000 miles. Oil pressure is the same as when I pulled it out of storage.

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
Feels good so far. When it gets hot I can really feel the fan clutch drag it down. 3.55s and 31" tires aren't helping it. Might try using a plastic mustang fan and clutch for that.. if that doesn't work I'll try another stock efan.
Still have the lean first cold start issue and chasing the exhaust leak. I have been to two exhaust shops and they say there is no leak. Stuffing the exhaust pipe sounds doesn't show any hissing sound. But it still sounds like a leak. Maybe the header sounds like this. I don't know.
I'm installing 4.11s and a truetrac in the rear next week.

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
It hit 2000 miles this weekend. Oil pressure is still what it was when I first drove. I haven't checked the bearings again, will do it at oil change though. Probably pull the front cover and check my cam pin.
Its running well with the exception of my cold start issue. http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/viewt ... f=5&t=2540
I'm working on replacing the coil rail with a remote mount coil pack.

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
31's and 4.11's, thats sounds a little racey, I'm thanking to changing to 3.90's from 3.73's I wanted mid range rpm band, and 4.11's would put me in hi range, 3500 plus .
I used to have 3 job's and no life ! I kind of miss it

31s and 4.11s put it back right about where the stock gearing was with stock tires.

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
Every time I think about my stroker I think about when I was still getting it all together and reading your build thread and hoping that somehow I wouldn't run into any trouble.
It's really good to see that your woes are over, what a nightmare.

Re: New 4.6L stroker build
I hit ~3000 miles and pulled the oil pan, valve cover, and timing cover today. I pulled the timing cover so I could slide the cam forward to check the cam bearings better and also to check the cam pin. I also removed the rockers to take the pressure off the cam so I could move it easier. The cam bearings look good, the cam pin looks good as does everything else. I didn't check any rod or main bearings though, but I never had a problem there. So, hopefully its over.

Man, I just spent almost 3 hours reading all 39 pages. Makes me scared to even attempt a stroker.
I'm glad it seems you finally got it licked. I would have found the tallest building and jumped.

+1 Stoked you figured out the issue. I'm sure this thread will be referenced as long as 4.0s continue being stroked.
