If the rigidity is arbitrary then anyone with a drill press and a 4" hole saw could make a torque plate... We could pass it around from build to build, charging only shipping + a couple bucks (maybe 20 or 30 bucks total) to defray the initial steel cost and labor and have a reasonable loaner tool deposit that would be refunded each time it got returned. $20-$30 versus buying a torque plate for one use, or just going without... I think I'd pay the $20-30.
I would have definitely been up for that, but it seems most people don't want to loan their tools out.

How much did yours cost I forget was it $180? I think it would be a nice service to have a Jeepstrokers loaner torque plate. I may be game for making one if it doesn't need milling. I may not need one for a couple years, but my next Stroker if I ever build it I expect to.

Torque plates cost about $50 bucks and up to ship ONE WAY. So just to use such a thing would be a minimum investment off $100 bucks in shipping and a small fee for use. Then how do you "protect" the owners investment? Who's to say some Joe Blow in Texas wants to use it and decides not to return it? Then what.

then the already agreed upon fee that was precharged as insurance (the price of the tool) gets kept by previous/original owner, and "life moves on". that was posted in silver XJs thread about renting tools out. while i do agree that shipping could make things not cost effective, the original idea was cool and goes to further show that not everyone on the internet is out to screw you. alot of the forum sites have quite tight comradery (sp?)
(yay, 100 posts!)

DISCLAIMER--if this TQ plate discussion goes on we need to start another thread. BHJ racer net price for a TQ plate is $868.75. With that said how many people are going to be willing to send one check for $868.75 and another for 50 bucks for rental? My bet is not many.

I would have, but you would have gotten it back as quick as possible. Heck.. thats close to the cost of my machine work. They finish using it, it gets sent back, deposit comes back, and the machine shop gets their money.

Sixpak: read a couple posts up man, it was already stated it would have a loaner deposit refundable on return... 50 dollars... I can ship a Transmission for 60, I don't know how thick they truly need to be which is what prompted the question I asked. I've already seen the new thread that suggests a full inch thick plate..... Hell I can ship a cast iron I6 head for 60-70 dollars.
I agree we need to move further plate discussion to that thread. And stop cluttering up Tom's so please reply there if desired.

It's a 6.250" Aluminium rod out of my friends destroked 390 that came in the race car he bought. He thought it would make a good pic in front of my head.
Here's his ride

That picture seems to justify the need for that massive connecting rod
