I couldn't agree with you more.
Trying to out engineer the factory cooling system isn't the best idea.
The only other thing that I might add is if you're closed cooling system is in good shape upping the pressure on the Wouldn't hurt along with the addition of water wetter in the coolant mixture.
Also I like to have the peace of mind to have my electric fan on an override toggle switch to give me the option of cooling the water in the radiator when the engine is not running.
