Re: So this whole poor man stroker thing......
Having read this entire thread, I've concluded that jsawduste may know engines, but he handled this entire dialog the worst. I highly doubt you care about helping people as much as you say and in fact you are hurting the reputation of this forum. When someone rubs you wrong, state it subtly and back away. No need for "fucktard" comments.... you single handedly steered this conversation to a level it didn't have to go.

So here's where I'm at back to subject. My crank looks like its going to be cut 10 , the 7120 is getting valve job, 677 pistons are in as well as the camshaft, bolt pin spring only cost $9 so that's cool. All I need are the timing setup and its going to be partially built to determine figment and quench height. That's where I'm at.

If you had 0.010" shaved from the block the quench will come in at around 0.078".amceaglesx4 wrote:So here's where I'm at back to subject. As I said in an earlier post, I highly recommend that you smooth off any rough edges in the combustion chambers and piston dishes. Try to get them to a near mirror like finish to reduce the chances of detonation. Also use colder plugs e.g. Champion RC10LYC.

Thanks. My engine builder said since the bowls are slightly rough its a good thing. If smoothing them out is good to help prevent detonation, then I will surely do that.

The bowls that your machinist is referring to is the area underneath the valve seat in the head. That's called the bowl. It's desirable to have the intake bowl rough as opposed to smooth because it helps atomization.amceaglesx4 wrote:Thanks. My engine builder said since the bowls are slightly rough its a good thing. Dino is referring to the combustion chamber. That you want smooth.

I realize this post is a few months old, but in reading up to learn...I certainly was very entertained by this thread. Hope my future posts don't get my balls busted quite as much. However, there is a LOT of great info in this thread. Thanks to the OP and everyone for sharing their hard earned knowledge!

You will find that most of us are more then willing to help out.
However it does get tough when all we seem to accomplish is banging our heads against the wall.

Well you need to realize not everyone here has years of engine building experience

Reread my comment above.
The majority of folks whom come here know little to nothing about engines. They simply want their personal vehicle to perform better.
