Re: Aftermarket ECU controllers
I'am running an Electromotive Tec II injection and ignition system. I have bought it second hand with an old eprom in it. With this eprom you could not tune it with a laptop. But on ebay i bought an newer chip and after modifiing the ingnition maps, it think it is running pretty good. But i have not tested it on the road yet. The electormotive unit is easy to setup, the fist time you make a program, you can run a wizard. After that you can fine tune the maps. Also you can tune the unit on the fly, when the engine is running. my engine in a test setup,

I also whan to make a setup with an megasquirt unit and use LS 2 ingnition coils for injection. With the megasquirt you must run the injector synchronised, al injectors firing at the same time. I've spoken to a guy who''s job it is to modify existing injection system an he said, that in most cases the engine wil run the same or beter with synchonised injectors.
The megasquirt has 3 ingnition outputs. So with a six cilinder you will be running de ingition coils in pairs.

Which is what the 4.0L with the distributor less system do.awieman wrote: The megasquirt has 3 ingnition outputs. So with a six cilinder you will be running de ingition coils in pairs.

Why don't you run a carb? It seems to me it would be cheaper and easier to tune, and you could tune in the field without a laptop. The only thing would be a custom intake but it sounds like you need a custom intake to begin with.

The 99+ Grand Cherokee 4.0l PCM is tunable. I know because I have SCT Pro Racer Package and have tuned mine. Most likely other years of OBD2 is also tunable throught SCT. You can email them with your P/N on the PCM and they can tell you.

Re: Aftermarket ECU controllers
Is the GC PCM able to be dropped into a XJ without too much effort?
is your '99 GC a Dizzy setup or is it coil packs?

I don't see a tuner for the Jeep 4.0 on thier web site. Which tuner did you use?

No. They are completly different.lafrad wrote:Is the GC PCM able to be dropped into a XJ without too much effort?
Coil packs. All WJs(99-04 Grands) have coil packs.is your '99 GC a Dizzy setup or is it coil packs?

Re: Aftermarket ECU controllers
I'm using the X2 programmer, they don't list it because they don't make performance tunes for it other then the stock one. You have to use the pro racer package along with the tuners. When I got my tuner SCT was having a sale. X2 was $99 and I think the prp was $349. I plan on building a stroker very soon so I got the stuff in advance and have only really played with the transmission shift stuff.

Re: Aftermarket ECU controllers
You can edit almost anything in the PCM. Tune the spark tables, fuel tables (can compensate for larger injectors), commanded afr, disable certain CELs, tune certain transmission tables, fan setting, etcSilverXJ wrote:What can you do with it?
My Mustang is still on the factory PCM and putting down 485rwhp/530tq and drivability is better than stock. (Totally different PCM but same basic principle.

Interesting. Can you do anything with closed loop operation?DaveJeep wrote:You can edit almost anything in the PCM. Re: Aftermarket ECU controllers
I would like it tome come out of closed loop under acceleration earlier.

Re: Aftermarket ECU controllers
You can change the threshold on power enrichment and acceleration enrichment. They are time, map, throttle position and rpm based for the most part.
Best thing to do it look for the code (usually starts with 560) on the PCM. Is it a Jtec PCM? The program might let me view your code. Not too sure about that though.

Re: Aftermarket ECU controllers
That sounds what I was asking for. I don't like how late the PCM comes out of closed loop and what you describe sounds like what I am looking for. My PCM code is 56041634AF (F seems to be the version number and isn't as important as the rest).
