Re: valve, valve spring, retainer info
I ordered all of my mopar parts from mopartsracing/jeepconnection.com. I bought the 30ab cam from there and then the valve springs, retainers, keepers, pushrods(I didn't use them, but the 9.602" sealed powers), valve seals, and gasket set. I only found out after the fact that I could've saved some $ had I asked my brother to look up mopar parts at aa. Anyhow, they sent me two bags of keepers, so I have extra, and anybody interested in stock size mopar pushrods?

Re: valve, valve spring, retainer info
OK, i got the comp cams 614-16 10 degree locks a couple of days ago. I compared the height of the stock valves, retainers and locks to the SBC stainless valves, mopar P5249464 valve springs, Comp cams 747-12 retainers, and 614-16(+.050) retainers. It looks like the SBC/mopar/comp cams setup is about .030 shorter than the stock set up. Also measuring the best I can with a vernier caliper, the stock setup installed height was about 1.650. So, to get to the correct installed height(1.640) with the new setup, there will be very little machining of the valve spring pocket. They might not have to machine any after the valve job...we will see. This is what it cost for my setup:
$60.00 for SBC stainless, undercut, 1.94/1.50 valves(Ebay item 380057956983 You can call and order just 12. That's what I did)
$45.00 Comp cams 747-12 retainers
$23.00 Comp cams 614-16, 10 degree locks
$88.00 mopar P5249464
Total $216.00
Using this setup, I don't have to pay for the install of new guides, just reaming up to 11/32. Also these valves are real nice and cost less than new stock jeep valves.

Re: valve, valve spring, retainer info
I wouldn't definitely use the 1.64" Value. I would make sure that the spring install load is correct. I've heard 100-110 seat closed seat load. I.e. adjust the install height for the correct seat loads. Example, I had my MP springs installed with the rest of the mopar hardware to have a seat load of 100 lb. The head's valve seat had to be machined a little bit. IIRC installed height may have been 1.7", but not sure.

Re: valve, valve spring, retainer info
I recieved a call from my machinist tonight. He was working on my head, finished grinding the valve seats said everything was looking good. He said the installed spring load of the MP springs was 130 lbs. He called me because he was concerned that the stock valve train wasn't sufficient to handle the raised spring tension. When i told him i was using roller rockers he said that it will be no problem then. When he asked if it was a roller cam, he seemed a little concerned about the flat tappet design, but said it should be fine with the roller rockers. Just thought i'd pass along the information

Did he say what the installed height was? I thought it was suppossed to be 1.640.

Re: valve, valve spring, retainer info
When I had mine tested they were 113 lbs. But they were already broke in. Perhaps the 130 is the new pressures. The stock install is 1.64".. when I have a 3 angle valve job done I had them installed at 100 lbs.

Re: valve, valve spring, retainer info
No, he said tomorrow he needed to measure up and grind the tops of the valve stems as required to make sure they are even. He did also mention that the springs would most likely soften up a touch after some use.
