Can't you swap in a 46re :huh: IIRC it's just a stronger version.

All XJ 4.0L autos are AW4s. I think one of the 4 cylinders or V6 had some other transmission, but the 4.0L always had the AW4. The ZJs also had a AW4, but that was only early 93 models. I had one and the transmission was about the only thing that worked correctly.

As far as the 44A is concerned... well, I wouldn't touch a 44A to begin with )its the A part), but it will have no issue with a AW4.

I read an article in MOPAR ACTION a while back, they have a project dakota. They swapped a 42re for a 46re.

4= # of fwd gears
2 or 6 = tq rating- don't remember what they mean.
R = rear output or drive
E = elec shift or control

I'm not sure if they bolt up to the same transfer cases or not (output shafts) but otherwise should be no sweat. ;)

Hmm sounds feasible... what would a 46re come out of? Ram?

Yeah I've already went through a process of which axle to go with, there's a company called Mountain Valley Custom that makes a truss for the 44A as well as a new cover from BlueTorch Fab, that pretty much cures the weak link there. And the Spartan locker has some pretty good reviews.

I'm slightly hesitant to use a chrysler transmission though because I've heard and gone through quite a few problems with them, but I know once they've been rebuilt and from what i hear, installing a shift kit, they run very well. Just looking for my cheapest most reliable option.

Back to your original post. I was wondering why you want to remote mount your turbo. The plumbing is much easier if it stays close to the motor.

Well that was before I saw the boostwerks manifold; Till then I just figured that was the easiest way minus running the oil lines. I've never turbo'ed anything before. I have a ton to learn! lol

I just got a book from Jay K Miller to reference. Pretty informative for a newbie like me.

I noticed most new people don't think about the drivetrain when adding boost... guess I'm ahead of the game in that regard lol.
